Teaching Philosophy
I am reminded of a quote from bass virtuoso and master teacher Francois Rabbath about teaching. He says "I always ask myself, how can I help [them]?" This beautifully simple question is the core to my teaching philosophy. It's important to me to have students realize their goals. These goals could be wanting to learn how to play an instrument, or learn how to play some of the tunes on the radio, or wanting to play in an orchestra, or it could even be wanting to get better at the double bass. We will work on clarifying our goals with music, and with other aspects of their life, coming up with creative strategies to reach said goals, exploring other genres of music, all while developing proficiency with the double bass. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to show my students that music is a magical gift.

HealthThe bass is one of the most athletic of instruments, which is why I encourage all of my students to explore different ways of taking care of their bodies. These ways include: the Alexander Technique, Running, Yoga, Tai-chi, the Feldenkrais Method, and more. Please visit the "Health" tab for more information.
